The girl in the shadow
In my foster home there was a small gold cross on the wall. At its center, a little girl knelt in prayer.
She never left. She grew up. Today a woman kneels where that little girl knelt, with her armor on and her sword down. And the girl is still there in the shadow, held by the same God who never let go of either of us.
Nobody asks the woman in the shadow for her story. So I'm telling it.
